Chance to see the vital role of a firefighter at station open day
Dunfermline Fire Station is throwing open its doors to the community today.
Everyone is welcome at a free emergency services day from 11am to 4pm.
They can check out emergency services vehicles and also watch a series of practical demonstrations.
The line rescue and water rescue teams will have their equipment on display.
Police Scotland, Saline First Responders and the Coastguard will be there with 114th Linburn Scouts and local Taekwondo group.
Firefighters will also be available to chat about fire safety and potential careers within the service.
Visitors can also take part in CPR training as part of an innovative partnership with the British Heart Foundation which has given communities right across the country the chance to learn life saving skills.
All Scotland’s fire stations now act as a base for local people to learn these vital skills.
Firefighter Julia Mackenzie said: “This open day is a fantastic opportunity for the community to meet and greet their local firefighters at a free, family day out.
“Vehicles from SFRS, as well as Police Scotland, will be on display.
“Visitors will be able to see the huge range of equipment carried on board each appliance which allows all of our emergency services colleagues to deal with any given incident.
“Throughout the day, the fire service crew will be running a series of demonstrations using pumps and ladders to give a taste of the work we do.”
The crew will also be fundraising for the Fire Fighters Charity and Scottish Burned Children’s Club.
