Young warns Fifers to beware the Blues

East Fife get their League One campaign started at Stranraer, with manager Darren Young warning his players that the Blues will be out to make up for a disappointing campaign last time out.

Young said: “Stranraer will have been disappointed at not mounting a challenge for promotion last season and one of the reasons for that was making a slow start in the league.

“They were in the bottom two places for a long time and they will be out to make sure that does not happen again.

“Beating us would get them off to a great start so we will be facing a very determined outfit.

“It is, therefore, a tough venue for us to start our league campaign at but I feel that we are better prepared for it now after a week with no games.

“It was a hard start for us in the Betfred Cup as the matches came thick and fast and we were low on numbers but things are looking better now.

“I would describe our campaign as mixed and I am sure that the Stranraer manager Stevie Farrell would say the same about his side.

“Stranraer are a side I know well from my time at Albion Rovers.

“They have brought in a striker, Ryan Wallace, that East Fife fans will know as well and he will need careful watching as on his day he can be lethal.”

Striker Greg Hurst has been brought on board on loan to bolster the numbers available to Young and he will be involved at Stair Park.

However, the game has come too soon for Jonathan Page, Kevin Smith, Mark Lamont and Ross Mutch, who remain out injured, with Chris Kane out due to suspension.
