Hearts are hoping to ‘Star’ as they make their debut in top division

-

It is a big day for Kennoway Star Hearts whose trip to Camelon sees them make their Super League debut.

It is the climax of an incredible journey given they only joined the Junior ranks four years ago following the amalgamation of Star Hearts and Kennoway AFC.

East Fife swooped for last season’s top scorer Kyle Wilson and the main arrivals are highly promising youngsters John Binnington, Dylan Muir and Scott Page.

Forfar West End kick-off their first season back in the top tier at home to Bonnyrigg Rose.

It could hardly have been tougher as last season’s runners-up Rose are the title favourites.

West End are without their influential skipper Matt Ramsey, who is out long term with damaged cruciate ligaments, and Andy Walls who is recovering from a dislocated shoulder.

After a traumatic week which saw manager Keith Gibson and coach Tony McAulay resign, Broughty Athletic host last season’s Premier League champions Sauchie.

Until a new appointment is made, defender Jamie McCunnie, goalkeeper Iain Ross and team skipper Jamie Winter are at the helm.

Lochee United begin with a visit from Hill of Beath whom they defeated 2-0 at Keirs Park last May.

The Fifers won their 3-1 on their last visit to Thomson Park, however, so a close contest is in prospect.

The Bluebells have been in good form in the build up, holding a Dundee FC youth team to a draw and only going down narrowly to Dundee United’s youth side in midweek.

Manager George Shields has several new faces in his squad, notably Grant Lawson who was signed from Broughty, but another newcomer, Craig Smith from Downfield, is out injured. Kevin Buchan and Paul Lunan are also out with knee injuries.

The Haws are another club under new management, Kevin Fotheringham having replaced Bobby Wilson during the summer.

The new coaching staff consists of Darrin Wright, Stevie McInroy and John Wylie.

On the playing front, striker Lewis Elder, signed from Lochgelly Albert has been banging in the goals in pre-season and will have to be watched.

Dundonald Bluebell are aiming to at least replicate last season’s top-six finish.

With an almost unchanged squad supplemented by the arrivals of Adam Moffat and Colin Wilson from Hill of Beath, Calum Smith from Bo’ness, Scott Durie from Clyde and keeper Jordan Mushet from Kirkcaldy YM, they seem in good shape to do so.

Only a poor start prevented them finishing even higher last term, so three points is very much the target from their opening fixture away to Newtongrange Star.

Other than Lewis McKenzie, they have a full squad.

Bo’ness, who finished third last term, is a hard enough venue without having to head there short-handed, but that is Carnoustie Panmure’s lot.

Three players – Luke McGeehan, Steven Cook and Ryan Roche – are all definitely missing, while Robert Urquhart and Liam Scott are doubtful.

Jeanfield Swifts have a difficult start to their second season in the top flight away to Broxburn Athletic.

Being without Mark Duigan (knee injury) plus Daniel Kelly and Fraser Mills, both suspended, only makes Swifts’ task all the harder.
