No shortage of activities for youngsters

Scarecrow competitio­n among new attraction­s

Kinross is one of the highlights of the summer show circuit and this year’s offering looks set to hit the spot.

The children certainly won’t be bored on the banks of Loch Leven.

We take a look at the great line-up of entertainm­ent aimed at little people.

Following its successful introducti­on at last year’s show, the Children’s Food and Farming tent is back for 2017.

A visit to the tent will allow younger show-goers the chance to come face to face with alpacas and ferrets, try their hand at spinning and weaving and potato and wool activities to name but a few pursuits.

New for this year’s show, the scarecrow competitio­n takes place next Saturday and is aimed at young and older visitors alike with a special children’s section for children aged up to 14.

The competitio­n is free to enter and the idea is to create a scarecrow that can be tied to a post using as many colours and items of clothing as your imaginatio­n can come up with.

There will be prizes for the best entries, with judging by The Courier’s very own Nancy Nicolson.

Entrants need to register by the end of today by emailing the name of the applicant, and age if applicable, to kinrosssho­w@aol.com.

There are also children’s classes in the flower show, so come along on Friday or Saturday with your entries which should be created under the theme Kinross Show Day.

Children who love to get dressed up shouldn’t miss the chance to take part in the children’s fancy dress turnout, which is part of the horse show.

Entries for this event are taken on the field and children under 12 can turn out with or without a pony or donkey.

Please note any children on ridden animals must wear appropriat­e headgear. On top of all that – don’t miss out on the dog show, having a good old jump on the bouncy castles, visiting the trade stands for face painting or spotting the queen bee in the hive. Little visitors certainly won’t get bored.
