Dundee United have received a big new-season boost by signing Fraser Fyvie, writes Ian Roache.

The former Hibs, Wigan and Aberdeen midfielder has joined up at Tannadice on a one-year contract.

Getting such a good bit of business done on the eve of their Championship opener against Inverness Caley Thistle will give manager Ray McKinnon a spring in his step as he heads up to the Highlands.

The move has been a bit of a slow burner, with the player first linked to United several weeks ago.

It has all worked out now, though, and Fyvie can’t wait to get started.

The 24-year-old, who is McKinnon’s 11th signing of the summer, said: “I am happy to secure a deal at a club like United.

“When I spoke to the manager, he convinced me that this was the place to be for the next stage of my career.

“I am sure United fans will remember me from playing against them for Hibs and previously Aberdeen but I am looking forward to showing them my ability and helping secure promotion for United.”

Tangerines boss McKinnon added: “Fraser is an experienced, excellent midfielder who fits the criteria we are looking for.

“He will enhance our midfield and our dressing room.”

Meanwhile, goalkeeper Cammy Bell moved quickly to join Kilmarnock after his contract was “mutually terminated” by United on Thursday night.

He has agreed a two-year deal with his former club.

Rugby Park boss Lee McCulloch said: “Cammy is an experienced goalkeeper, who is very familiar with the club and the fans.

“He provides great competition for the other goalkeepers and I’m delighted to have him onboard.”
