Carnoustie lose after controversial penalty

Super league: Broughty put their troubles behind them with welcome home victory

- Mark johnson

CARNOUSTIE PANMURE came away from their visit to Bo’ness United feeling a little hard done to.

With only one fully fit substitute, they were down to the bare bones.

The home side took the lead on 20 minutes. Adam Harwood was adjudged to have fouled Fraser Keast but with the offence looking outside the box, the referee pointed to the spot.

Carnoustie got a deserved equaliser 10 minutes before the break when Pat Martin glanced the ball home from a great Sam Simpson cross.

They looked to have the better of the second period, but Jack Wilson put Bo’ness back in front midway through the half.

BROUGHTY ATHLETIC put their problems behind them to win at home to Sauchie Juniors. The only goal came after 15 minutes. Kevin Milne was brought down in the box and Paul McLellan scored the resulting penalty.

A 35-yard wonder goal from Chris Scott in added time gave JEANFIELD SWIFTS a deserved point at Broxburn’s Albyn Park. The home side took the lead then missed a penalty.

Rhys Davies scored a deserved equaliser only for the homesters to regain the lead, which they held until Scott’s magnificent equaliser.

KENNOWAY STAR HEARTS knew it would be a big step up to the Super League, and it proved just that as they lost 4-0 at Camelon in their opener.

FORFAR WEST END also had a hard introduction to the top flight as they took on Bonnyrigg Rose at Strathmore Park, going down 3-0 to the title favourites.

HILL OF BEATH earned a draw at LOCHEE UNITED.

Danny Miller put United in front, with a debut goal only for Lewis Elder to equalise. Bryan Deasley scored from the spot on 55 minutes before the home side lost Scott McComiskie for a second caution. The visitors equalised on 87 minutes when Elder scored a penalty.

Newtongrange Star, reprieved from relegation by Kelty’s decision to leave the Junior game, had a somewhat surprising 2-0 win over DUNDONALD BLUEBELL at new Victoria Park.
