Punters can look to Rav at Chelmsford

RACING: Cumani’s Footstepsinthesand colt is making up for lost time

LA RAV is quickly making up for lost time and can pick up a nice prize in the shape of the totequadpot Handicap at Chelmsford.

The Footstepsinthesand colt, trained by Luca Cumani, was unraced at two, but after finishing fifth of 10 in a decent Newmarket maiden in May, he won his next two starts, looking like a horse with a bright future.

He broke his maiden at Salisbury in fine style, coming home four and a half lengths clear. While that form can be picked apart somewhat, he proved next time out it was no fluke.

Admittedly it was only a small field at Newbury, but racing over a mile after winning over seven furlongs the time before, he ran very keenly in front but put the race to bed a fair way out, winning by more than three lengths.

He won his opening handicap off 85 and has been put up 8lb, but on just his fourth ever run he is one of the least exposed in the field and is trained by a man who excels with this type of horse.

A good run here could even see him enter the shake up for the Cambridgeshire.

A first-time visor might spark Roger Varian’s PROSPER back to life in the totetrifecta Fillies’ Handicap, another race with £25,000 on offer.

She looked promising earlier in the campaign when second to Son Of The Stars and winning at Sandown.

Upped in class since, she has been ultimately disappointing, but down in the handicap and with the headgear on might be the time to catch her.

Mark Johnston appears to have found a very winnable opportunity for PUMBLECHOOK in the CNG Handicap at Catterick. A blatant nonstayer over two-and-a-quarter miles last time out, back over a mile-and-six is more within his compass. SELECTIONS: CATTERICK: 2.15 Shrewd Approach, 2.45 Windforpower, 3.15 Pumblechook, 3.45 Lucky Lodge, 4.15 Hitman, 4.45 Desktop, 5.15 Regal Decree.

CHELMSFORD: 5.50 Kit Marlowe, 6.20 Ibn Al Emarat, 6.50 LA RAV (NAP), 7.20 Prosper, 7.50 Military Parade, 8.20 Zorba The Greek, 8.50 Wild Flower.

DOUBLE: Lady Rav and Pumblechook.
