A man has been charged with attempted murder following an alleged assault in a popular Dundee woodland.

A 52-year-old woman was rushed to hospital on Monday afternoon after an incident on a path leading through Templeton Woods and Clatto Park.

The unidentified woman is believed to have been walking her dog along the path when she was apparently attacked by a male at around 1.10pm.

The victim, who suffered a serious head injury, remains in Ninewells Hospital where she is receiving treatment.

Yesterday officers continued to scour an area of the popular park where a mountain bike trail is located.

Forensic specialists were spotted painstakingly searching through bushes at the spot where it is understood the woman was targeted.

As many as four large police vans could be seen on the road leading to Clatto reservoir as police maintained a heavy presence in the immediate area.

Park-goers said they would continue to use the path to walk their dogs, saying it was important not to allow fear to dictate their actions.

One woman, who did not wish to be named, said she had walked her pet on the same path only hours before the attempted murder is alleged to have happened.

She said: “I walk my dog or run along this path every day, it is scary to think something like this could happen here. It is such a lovely part of the city and a great spot for everyone to enjoy.

“It just goes to show that terrible things can happen anywhere.

“I’ll carry on using this path to walk my dog, I felt safer today knowing there were so many police in the area.”

Officers would like to hear from anyone who was in the area of Templeton Woods between 12.30pm and 2.30pm on Monday.
