Warning after medication stolen

-

Police have issued a strong warning to members of the public following the theft of prescribed medication from a chemist in Buckhaven.

Officers are currently investigating the incident, which happened at around 3.20pm on Tuesday August 1 from a shop in the town.

A quantity of morphine and oxycodone tablets were said to be stolen, and police are appealing for witnesses.

However, they are also keen to stress that the drugs can pose a risk to a person’s health if consumed by anyone who has not been prescribed them,

Members of the public who come into possession of the medication have therefore been urged to hand them in to their nearest police station.

Sergeant Craig Fyall, of Levenmouth Police Station, said: “As part of our inquiries we are keen to hear from anyone who may have information as to the person responsible.

“If you are offered prescribed medication for sale on the street, please decline and contact the police.”

Morphine is a strong painkiller normally used to treat severe pain, or other long-standing pain when weaker painkillers no longer work, while oxycodone is also a powerful opioid painkiller which can come with a number of unwanted side effects.

Those with information can contact Police Scotland on 101 or the charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
