Early results show positive report card, says council

Exam results showed the “significan­t progress” made in Angus in recent years has been maintained, the local council said.

Angus Council said it is looking forward to the release of more specific data next month which will highlight all its school leavers’ achievemen­t.

Children and learning convener Mark Salmond said: “Early indication­s from the SQA exam results show this year has been another really positive one for our children and young people.

“Our pupils should be very proud of themselves — all their hard work has certainly paid off.

“Praise also goes to our teaching staff, parents and carers who have supported the children over the past year.”

A recent report for Angus young people in S4-S6 in 2015-16 showed attainment had been maintained or improved.

Meanwhile, there were celebratio­ns across Aberdeensh­ire with confirmati­on that half of S4 pupils achieved five or more National 5 qualificat­ions, up 2% compared with the previous year.

Aberdeensh­ire Council’s education and children’s services committee chairwoman, Gillian Owen, said: “It is fantastic news that so many S4 pupils in Aberdeensh­ire have done so well.

“This year’s results show Aberdeensh­ire compares favourably with other part of Scotland and highlights the hard work pupils, parents, teachers and carers have put in to achieving what are excellent exam results.”

The percentage of S5 pupils awarded three or more Highers in one sitting was 43%, a 4% increase compared with 2016.

Furthermor­e, the percentage of S6 pupils who gained five or more Highers at the end of S6 was 37%, a 3% rise in comparison with the previous year.
