Good catches enjoyed at Lintrathen Loch

-

Lintrathen Loch is on good form.

The water level is well down, with the top of the Loch, behind the island, Sawmill Bank and the Sma Loch out of bounds to anglers to prevent damage to the boat fleet.

Restocking continues, with the latest stocking going in on Monday.

The loch is still getting good club results.

There were good results at Stockies Bay, Rhoddies, Smarts Bay and from drifts across the loch to the Dam Wall. Green/Black flies are still doing very well, along with Cormorants, Kate McLaren and Buzzers being the top reported patterns. Forbes of Kingennie

For those who mastered the conditions, or hit the right weather window, results were very positive.

Small dries (CDC variations, Yellow Owl, Sugar Cube Shipman) and Buzzers) took the majority of fish.

The Burnside Pool fished well to dries and buzzers, although the fish were quite difficult to catch on several days, with numbers rising to the dry fly but refusing to take it.

The Bankside Pool has seen fewer anglers than the other fly ponds but some decent returns. Inter City Trophy

Lake of Menteith was the venue and Dundee emerged as winners.

Doug Grimmond (Dundee) had the heaviest fish at 5lb 4oz.

Fish were taken all over the lake, with an excellent average weight, and taken on, or very near, the surface.

Catch-and-release fish were attributed 2lb, which was well below their actual weight.

Dundee recorded 46 fish for 110lb 8oz, runners up Glasgow 42 fish for 99lb 5oz and third were Edinburgh with 46 fish for 96lb 8oz. Top individual rod was Ronnie Turnbull of Edinburgh with 13 fish for 30lb 4oz. Monikie and Crombie

The cooler conditions resulted in less fly life hatching off and consequently fewer fish showing on the surface.

The fish are not too deep down. Most anglers have been fishing floaters or midge tips.

A variety of flies took fish this week including Clifton, Owl CDC, White Cat, Bibio, Silver Butcher and Olive Damsel.

Fish of the month went to J Gibb at 3lb 13oz off the island pond. Lake of Menteith

Water clarity has reduced in the past few days, but that has not hit catches.

Areas doing well include Cages, Stable Point, up behind Dog Island, Butts Bay and in front of the lodge.

Flies doing well are Diawl Bachs, Candy Booby, and Red-Headed Damsel.

On Wednesday, the penultimate night of the boat league, 21 anglers went out and caught 65 fish.

Top rod was Brian Mckenzie with 10 fish. Second was Les Grant with eight, and third was Stuart Ingles with eight. Llyn Brenig

The Scottish Youth International Fly Fishing team won gold. Jordan Queen was the international champion (Brown Bowl) and top Scottish rod. The team had 73 fish for 151lb.
