Carse of Gowrie farmer David Strachan of Nethermains

-

David Strachan, a well-known Carse of Gowrie farmer, has died at the age of 87.

Mr Strachan had farmed at Nethermains, Glencarse, since 1953 with his late wife Eva, sharing a hard-working, happy relationship.

Initially a mixed farm with active dairy and arable crops, this developed over the years, breaking away from dairy cattle to all arable, potatoes and grain.

In 1985, Mr Strachan expanded his farming business with the addition of an industrial grain drying facility with weighbridge and grain store.

Mr Strachan enjoyed being around people and was genuinely interested in their lives.

He was a valuable source for many who consulted him on a variety of topics.

He was a long-serving elder at St Madoes and Kinfauns Parish church and actively served the community as chairman of the community council for many years.

His two devoted employees, Charlie McDougall and Archie Laing, worked with him from the beginning, both aged 16, up until their retirement 50 years later.

Mr Strachan was a respected and knowledgeable farmer, passionate about his life’s work and had a great understanding about the clay land and how to work the soil.

He is survived by his three daughters, Linda, Heather and Audrey, and their respective families.

His funeral is on Wednesday with a service in St Madoes and Kinfauns Parish Church at 11.30am and thereafter to St Madoes Cemetery.
