Smith says patience will pay dividends

RAITH 3 STRANRAER 0

Lewis Vaughan again showed his worth to Raith with a double in the 3-0 win over Stranraer.

The midfielder took his tally to seven for the season in a five-star display.

But it was bitter-sweet, with Raith fans wondering what might have been had Vaughan not been loaned to Dumbarton last season.

His four goals in 15 appearances for the Sons kept them up while Raith went down.

But boss Barry Smith is only concerned about the future as his team produced some flowing football at times.

He has urged patience from the fans: “People get frustrated because we keep passing and moving the ball.

“But that is how our second goal came about, us waiting and looking for the opportunity. We have to be patient at times.”

The Stranraer goal came under pressure from the start with Greig Spence and Jason Thomson coming close.

Stranraer keeper Cammie Belford had to be at his most alert to keep the scoresheet blank with impressive saves from Liam Buchanan, Vaughan and Scott Robertson.

The breakthrough came two minutes from half time when Vaughan latched on to a well-placed pass from Spence before steering the ball home.

Spence made it 2-0 just after the hour with a tap-in from Vaughan’s pass.

Vaughan himself completed the scoring three minutes later, driving the ball home from Bobby Barr’s low cross.
