Teenager fined for ‘kiss’ assault
A drunk teenager took offence at being asked for a kiss by another man outside a Dunfermline nightclub and punched him on the face.
The victim sustained a cracked tooth after pouting his lips at Ben Jenkins following a night out.
Jenkins, 18, of Johnston Park, Cowdenbeath, appeared at Dunfermline Sheriff Court.
He admitted that on March 26 at St Margaret Street, Dunfermline, he assaulted Kieran Paige by punching him on the head to his injury.
Depute fiscal Dev Kapadia said a steward at Lourenzo’s nightclub saw Jenkins having an altercation with another male and he was ejected.
“Mr Paige saw the accused standing on his own.
“Rather stupidly he approached him, pouted his lips and asked him for a kiss.
“The accused said, ‘I’m not gay’ and punched him on the right side of the face, causing him to stagger backwards.
“A steward ran from the club to intervene,” added the depute.
As a consequence of the punch the victim suffered a cracked tooth.
Defence solicitor Gwen Haggerty said: “He’d consumed a large amount of alcohol and has very little recollection of the incident.”
Sheriff Allison McKay said: “It may be that the complainer approached you in a manner you did not appreciate but your reaction was completely out of order.”
She fined Jenkins £400.
