Private sale of grass-fed rams at Incheoch
Buyers from England, Wales, Ireland and all corners of Scotland congregated at Incheoch farm for a private sale of grass-fed Texel rams with high performance figures.
Overall 77 shearling rams averaged £969 (-£21 for 10 less sold); 43 Texel shearlings sold to a top of 1,700gns and averaged £1,019 (-£78 on the year for four less sold); 34 Lleyn shearlings sold to a top of 3,000gns and averaged £906(+ £41 on the year for six less sold)
First sheep into the ring was a top 1% growth ram whose dam bred the sale topper at last year’s sale. It was knocked down at the top price of 1,700gns to R and S Turnbull from Montrose who were buying a Texel for the first time to use on Lleyn ewes.
Another high performance ram went to neighbouring farmer Peter Mitchell of Tullymurdoch at 1,600gns.
At 1,400gns a ram used as a lamb on the Incheoch Texel flock went to another close neighbour, R Simpson and Son, Mains of Creuchies.
Lleyn buyers were more selective than in previous years.
Top priced Lleyn went to new breeder Tom Riley from Lancashire at 3,000gns.
Next in line came two sons of a homebred ram, Incheoch Edge, one of the favourites at last year’s sale. One went to repeat customer Simon Shirley Bevan, Gatehousecote, Bonchester Bridge for 2,100gns.
Fortknox was knocked down to Simon Brown from Kilkenny on his first visit to the sale at 2,000gns.
