Real curriculum, real excellence in Dundee

-

At the High School of Dundee, the focus is on enabling every pupil to achieve their full potential. The integrated curriculum therefore brings together the academic, the co-curricular and pupil health and wellbeing to provide a coordinated, genuine all-round education with the pupil at the heart.

The school has a long-established record of academic excellence.

This year that’s been reflected in every single one of the pupils who applied to university receiving an offer, including all 15 medical applicants.

This year also saw the school’s pupils achieve a record 63% of Advanced Higher passes at grade A, and a record National 5 pass rate of 96.3%.

In the primary years children receive subject specialist teaching in science, modern languages, ICT, art, music, drama, PE and health and food technology. This provides a real head start.

Choice is paramount. In S3 pupils continue to choose eight subjects, while in S5 they can select from 26 subjects at Higher level.

At Advanced Higher 21 subjects are available. Pupils are able to take all three sciences – biology, chemistry and physics – concurrently from N5 through to Advanced Higher level.

The High School of Dundee believes that creativity lies at the heart of great education, providing well-documented benefits in thinking skills, teamwork, leadership and health and wellbeing.

They also believe it exists in all pupils and it’s their goal to give them the opportunities, means and confidence to use it.

It’s at the core of the curriculum and with the redevelopment of Dundee’s former head post office building at Meadowside into a multi-million-pound Centre for Performing and Visual Arts, the aim is to give pupils a new, cuttingedge setting for their creativity to take flight.

Throughout the school, class sizes are kept small so pupils receive all the attention they need to develop and progress.

The highly developed pastoral care system is woven into the fabric of everyday life ensuring pupils have all the support they need to flourish.

Opportunity extends far beyond the classroom.

Pupils have access to a range of almost 100 inspiring co-curricular activities, they take advantage of the outstanding indoor and outdoor sports facilities at the Mayfield campus, and they regularly take part in life-changing trips.
