Scottish breeders to the fore at show and sale of Texels
Sheep: Topping the sale in Carlisle was a ram lamb from North Garngour Farm, Lesmahagow
Scottish breeders led the charge at the Solway and Tyne Texel Breeders Club show and sale in Carlisle.
Topping the sale at 40,000gns was March-born ram lamb Garngour Alabama, from J and H Clark, North Garngour Farm, Lesmahagow.
By Knock Yardsman and out of a dam by Mossvale Winston, he sold in a six-way split to: Boden and Davies Ltd, Mellor, Stockport; B Vernon, Marstonbrook Farm, Staffordshire; Kenny Pratty, Oldtown Farm, Peterculter; Ben Baggott Farms, Stafford; R Evans, Fox Farm, Shropshire; and Sherratt Farm Supplies, Shrewsbury.
Next best at 32,000gns was Februaryborn Mullan Amigo from Northern Irish breeder Brian Hanthorn.
By Mullan Wild Bill and out of a dam by Elgus Viscount, he sold in a three-way split to: S Renwick, Glenrath, Peebles; Karen Wight, Midlock Farm, Biggar; and Robert Cockburn, Errol, Perthshire. Thereafter north-east breeder Kenny Pratt paid 20,000gns for a March-born Castlecairn ram lamb, by Strathbogie Your Tupped, from Bruce Renwick, Kelso.
Other leading prices included 12,000gns for another ram lamb from J and H Clark. This late-March born son of Knock Yardsman sold in a four-way split to: Douganhill Farms, Castle Douglas; J Warnock, Sandilands Farm, Lanark; R and J Osborne, Castlehill, Dumfriesshire; and J and C Hastings, Kilncroft, Dumfries.
Robbie Wilson, who runs the Milnbank flock at North Dorlaithers Farm near Turriff, sold to a top of 10,000gns for March-born Milnbank American Sniper, by Strathbogie Yes Sir. He sold jointly to Proctors Farms Ltd, Lancaster, and P O’Connor, Co. Down.
Messrs Clark Farms at Blackhill Farm, Carluke, sold to 6,800gns for Teiglum Abracadabra, by Knock Yardsman. He sold to A Smith, Braco, Dunblane. Ram lambs averaged £1,468.80 for 253 sold.
