Saints star Davidson gets all-clear after head knock

Murray Davidson has been given the allclear to return to action for St Johnstone at the weekend, writes Eric Nicolson.

A sickening clash of heads with teammate Aaron Comrie at Celtic Park resulted in the influential midfielder being stretchered off the pitch and treated for concussion in a Glasgow hospital.

But the Perth club’s medical staff are happy with his recovery and Davidson is likely to be back in Tommy Wright’s squad for the visit of Hibs on Saturday.

The Saints boss reported: “Murray has had all the tests and will train today so we expect him to be fully fit for the Hibs game.”

Blair Alston, however, is unlikely to be risked.

“Blair will train later in the week but I don’t expect him to be involved,” said Wright.

“It has taken four or five days longer than we had initially thought to recover. It isn’t a major problem.

“But given the type of injury to his thigh we want to make sure he is 100%. I think it will be another week before we can consider him coming back into the squad.

“Mannus and Paton come back on Thursday from Northern Ireland’s double-header.”

Meanwhile, a move out of Perth didn’t happen for Chris Millar ahead of the transfer window closing but a loan could still be on the cards.

“I was surprised there was no strong interest in taking Chris,” said Wright. “I spoke to a number of clubs and so did his agent.

“He can still go out on an emergency loan and that is a possibility for him but he still under contract with us.

“The situation hasn’t changed in terms of where I see his future given the options I have in midfield. But no one is going to be banishing him to the under20s and if needed he will be used.”
