A farm building was badly damaged and 50 tonnes of straw destroyed in a blaze last night. The alarm was raised around 6.45pm when the fire was spotted in a steading at Pepperknowes Farm near Glencarse, five miles east of Perth. When firemen arrived at the scene they found the building well alight and had to call for assistance from Perth and Dundee. At the height of the fire a pall of smoke was visible from some distance away. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
