Stars wait for injury news on Lawrence

-

Chris Lawrence, a former National Hockey League draft by Tampa Bay Lightning, was recruited by Dundee Stars’ to add experience, solidity and grit to the squad.

Those qualities could be needed in abundance as the Tayside team visit successhungry Sheffield Steelers tonight at Ice Sheffield for their first Elite League game of the season.

However, 30-year-old Lawrence may not make the trip after coming to the bench with what appeared to be a leg injury during the final stages of Sunday’s 7-5 Challenge Cup, Group B, win over arch rivals Fife Flyers.

Coach Omar Pacha said the former Nottingham Panthers, Coventry Blaze and Sheffield Steelers right-wing or centre is in the hands of the club’s medical team and he awaits reports.

He added: “We hope it is not serious as Chris dominated the play early on (against Fife).

“He controlled the play and he makes guys around him better, so hopefully the medical team can tell us what is going on here.”

Stars travel with confidence boosted by their victory over Fife sparked by a treble by Swedish left-wing Jimmy Jensen.

Meanwhile, Sheffield go into the game on the back of a three-point weekend.

They lost 4-3 after overtime to Cardiff Devils in Yorkshire on Saturday but bounced back with a 7-1 win at Elite League newcomers Guildford Flames on Sunday.
