Day centre café opens its doors

-

Abbeyview Day Centre in Dunfermline has launched a café where people with memory loss and their carers can find support.

Available on Mondays and Thursdays from 11am to 1.30pm, the venue – which was unveiled by Dunfermline and West Fife MP Douglas Chapman this week – is open to the wider community.

Centre manager Isa Beveridge explained: “It’s not just for people with dementia. It’s for all people who have difficulty with their memory.

“Carers can get advice and support from trained staff.”

As part of the project, the centre is organising activities for people with memory loss and guest speakers.

The initiative was launched with the help of funding from Fife Council.

Mr Chapman said: “It will provide a fantastic service, both to the people who have these conditions as well as to their carers.

“For people with dementia this is good way to have positive things to be involved with and enjoy.

“I’d like to think the people who are running the café for their care and hard work helping those in our community who are affected by the condition.”

Abbeyview Day Centre is a purpose-built day centre providing daytime care and activities for up to 15 frail older people, five days a week.

The centre has charitable status and is run by a management committee.
