Day centre café opens its doors

-

Abbeyview Day Centre in Dunfermline has opened a café at which people with memory loss and their carers can go for support.

Dunfermline and West Fife MP Douglas Chapman officially declared the venue open.

It will be available on Mondays and Thursdays from 11am to 1.30pm and members of the wider community will be made welcome too.

Centre manager Isa Beveridge explained: “It’s not just for people with dementia. It’s for all people who have difficulty with their memory.

“Carers can get advice and support from trained staff.”

The centre is also organising activities for people with memory loss and guest speakers.

The initiative was launched with the aid of funding from Fife Council.

Mr Chapman said: “It will provide a fantastic service, both to the people who have these conditions as well as to their carers.

“For them to have that level of support is important. For people with dementia this is good way to have positive things to be involved with and enjoy.

“I’d like to thank the people who are running the café for their care and hard work helping those it affects in our community.”

Abbeyview Day Centre is a purpose-built base, providing daytime care and activities for up to 15 frail older people, five days a week.

The centre has charitable status and is run by a management committee.
