“Road and the miles”

-

The next lunchtime film arranged by the Friends of Dundee City Archives will reshow the 1966 STV “The Road and the Miles” at lunchtime on Thursday, September 28.

Iain Flett of FDCA will introduce this “I found this photograph lying on the pavement near to the junction of St Vincent Street and Monifieth Road in Broughty Ferry about a month ago,” says Lesley McEwen. “I would really like to know who the gentleman is and if anyone is missing the photo. There is a Jim Shearer, Photographer, stamp on the back.” Can anyone help? 30 minute black and white documentary, including an interview with Lord Provost Maurice McManus, shots of the Valentine’s card factory and illustrations being created for the magazine and comic book covers of the Red Letter, People’s Friend and The Beano.

Keiller marmalade jam jars are followed by NCR cash registers , the Premature Baby Unit at Maryfield Hospital and models of a possible new hospital to be built at Ninewells. The shots of the Fifie Abercraig leaving harbour, the construction of Tay Road Bridge and the demolition of the West Station will also be a prelude to the biannual conference of the FDCA on “Land, Sea and Air” on October 7.

“The Road and The Miles” will be shown at the Steps Theatre, Central Library, at 12.15 and then repeated at 1.15 on Thursday. Entry is free and there is no need to book.
