Hospital staff abused by relative
Staff at Lynebank Hospital in Dunfermline were abused by a patient’s angry relative.
Robert Bain, 36, shouted and swore at staff in the Daleview ward and used threatening language towards them.
He pled guilty to the charge against him at Dunfermline Sheriff Court and will return for sentence next month.
Depute fiscal Dev Kapadia told the court Bain’s uncle was a patient in the Halbeath Road hospital at the time of the incident on March 19 and eight weeks earlier had made a complaint against staff.
He said: “He had been physically restrained by staff after being abusive and threatening and after he spoke to police he did not proceed with the complaint. “The accused then attended Lynebank for a pre-arranged visit on March 19.”
During the visit, Bain, of Loretto Court, Musselburgh, became agitated and started shouting and swearing.
The court heard he accused staff of “man-handling” his relative and said: “I’m getting my uncle out of here.”
Staff activated an emergency button but Bain continued to shout and swear and behave in a “hostile and aggressive” manner when police arrived.
Sheriff Charles Macnair told Bain: “You have a very bad record, including public disorder, violence, racial disorder and possession of an offensive weapon.”
He called for reports before Bain returns to be sentenced.
