A man accused of committing a double murder turned up at a police cordon surrounding an address where a dead man and woman were found and told officers he was going to visit there.

Krzysztof Gadecki, 38, told detectives during that an interview that he would not kill a cat. He added: “I wouldn’t kill a fly or animal.”

Detective Constable Rachel Bruce had outlined the circumstances that led to Gadecki being questioned in a police station at the start of the interview.

She said that following the discovery of Ronald Kidd, 40, and Holly Alexander, 37, dead at an address in Rosefield Street, in Dundee, Gadecki had attended at a police cordon at the property and spoke to police.

She said he had indicated that he knew the occupants at the address and was going to visit, and because of this he was asked to come to police headquarters in the city to assist with inquiries.

The detective said it had been noted that Gadecki had an injury to his right hand and, during a search, he was found to have a set of keys and confirmed that one of them was for the front door of the Rosefield Street address.

She said further inquiry was made at his address in Benvie Road in Dundee, and a wallet, containing an item of property of Mr Kidd, was seen there, the High Court in Edinburgh heard.

Jurors were also shown a video recording which police made when they interviewed Gadecki.

Jurors saw Gadecki deny any involvement in Mr Kidd and Ms Alexander’s deaths.

He answered several of the questions asked of him in his native Polish. An interpreter translated his answers into English.

At one point during the interview, Gadecki spoke English to detectives.

He said: “I no kill nobody. I am no b ***** d. I no kill anybody. Do you understand officer – I kill nobody.”

Gadecki has denied murdering Mr Kidd and Ms Alexander at their home in Rosefield Street between December 8 and 11 last year.

He has lodged a special defence of self defence, claiming that he had been assaulted by the deceased.

He is also charged with stealing a set of keys, three watches, a pocket watch, a silver chain, a flask, two wallets, money and drugs from the flat in Rosefield Street.

He is further accused of attempting to defeat the ends of justice by putting clothing in a washing machine and disposing of training shoes and a mobile phone.

The trial continues.
