Attempts made to make street one-way to cure rat run fears
Councillors in St Andrews are trying to get a traffic order made to make Queen’s Gardens one-way northbound, with a marked cycle lane.
The proposed change is in response to concerns expressed by locals about the amount of traffic using the street as a rat run and the congestion that often happens due to the narrowness of the street.
Local Labour councillor Brian Thomson said: “The change – if progressed – would hopefully reduce traffic and improve air quality in what is a predominantly a residential street.
“The proposal would result in no loss of parking spaces in Queen’s Gardens, it would be relatively inexpensive to implement and – if found to be unsuccessful – it would be easy to reverse.”
