Glenrothes housing plan

-

Councillors in Glenrothes have vowed to continue working to tackle the housing shortage.

Local representatives met at Fife House yesterday where they were briefed on the town’s council housing estate and plans to carry it forward for the next three years.

Plans to construct a further 150 properties by 2019 were unveiled. Councillors were also told that a total of 28 new houses had been built in the Roxburgh Road and Tantallon Avenue areas of the town in the past 12 months, including several adapted for tenants with specific needs.

Councillor Fiona Grant, chairwoman of the Glenrothes area committee, said the programme marked a significant investment in local communities.

“These affordable houses are very much needed and will make a huge difference to the lives of many people,” she said.

“We commend the preparation of the housing plan for Glenrothes, where local tenants were involved and their needs and requests taken into account.

“Local councillors look forward to working with officers to develop a plan which tackles those issues highlighted in a robust and local manner.”

The committee will be updated on progress in six months’ time.

Glenrothes has more than 4,500 local authority houses but of the 1,770 people on the waiting list last year, just 291 were allocated new homes.
