Town’s Post Office back on track

-

Burntisland Post Office has reopened at a new location.

The service is now being run at Murdoch’s, at 103 High Street.

The last branch closed suddenly in January after it was targeted in a series of armed robberies, leaving the town without a post office.

Service had previously been disrupted when the branch closed suddenly in 2015 then resumed on part-time hours.

It is hoped the move to existing retail premises will help to secure its future.

The new open plan terminal, which sits alongside the retail till, opened in the shop on Saturday.

It operates Mondays to Saturday from 9am to 5.30pm, offering a wide range of services, including postal, banking, bill payment and travel money and insurance.

Kenny Lamont, Post Office network operations area manager, said: “We are making it easier for customers to get their cash, send and collect their mail and do their banking because we know how important these services are to local residents.

“We are confident that this vibrant new-style post office at the heart of the local community will meet customer needs.”

The Post Office said robust security measures would be in place at the terminal and staff handling transactions would be fully trained on operational and service issues, including customer privacy, to ensure they meet all of the required standards.
