Livestock in demand

Lawrie & Symington, Forfar, had forward 21 prime cattle, one OTM and 1,054 prime sheep. Prime cattle: Bullocks (eight) sold to a top of 254p per kilo for a 578kg Limousin from Mill of Inverarity, and also to £1,601.07 for a 643kg Limousin from Nethermyres to average 244p per kilo.

Heifers (13) sold to a top of 256p per kilo for a 539kg Limousin from Nethermyres and also to £1473.54 for a 599kg Limousin from West Bog to average 238p per kilo. Leading prices per kilo: Bullocks – Lim. 249p Nethermyres, 246p, 244p and 242p Woodhead of Mailer, 241p Nethermyres.

Cow (one) – Lim. £610 (110p) Afflochie. Prime sheep: Prime lambs (799) sold to 209p per kilo for Beltex from Clochie and to £100 per head for Texels from Mains of Dalrulzion to average 163.4p per kilo (-1.6p). Caledonian Marts Ltd, Stirling, sold 2,565 prime lambs, ewes and tups. A total of 1,811 prime lambs averaged 164.8ppkg (-5.7ppkg on the week).

Top price went to Doune Farms for a pair of 56kg Beltex at £103, and to a top of 225ppkg for a 44kg Beltex also from Doune Farms.
