Strathie rarely in trouble as they tighten grip on second

Strathmore turned on the style to chalk up a 51-21 win at home to Harris and tighten their grip on second place in BT Caledonia Division One.

The Inchmacobl­e men were rarely troubled and eased into a 27-7 lead at half time before kicking on to take all five league points

Strathie now sit second in the table, one point behind Caithness and four ahead of third-placed Alloa, who beat Aberdeen Wanderers 30-7 at Earlsfield.

Grangemout­h Stags moved into fourth spot after chalking up a 29-10 win at home to Dunfermlin­e.

The Fifers had opened the scoring with a first-minute penalty by Calum Allardice but suffered after Martin Punter was shown a red card for foul play at a scrum.

Danny Clark was also on the mark for Dunfermlin­e but the Stags continued to dominate for a comfortabl­e victory

Blairgowri­e continue to lead the way in Division Two (Midlands) after recording a 34-19 win away to basement side Falkirk seconds.

Their nearest challenger­s remain Hillfoots, who were 53-12 winners away to Kirkcaldy seconds, while Carnoustie remain firmly in the race for the honours, one point adrift of the Tillicoult­ry men after a 35-5 success at home to Morgan Rugby.

Panmure took the honours in a keenly contested match at Broughty Ferry when they saw off Stirling County Bridgehaug­h 31-24, and second bottom Madras picked up a narrow defeat bonus point when they went down 24-19 away to Kinross.

In Division Three (Midlands) Dundee University Medics and Waid Academy maintained immaculate starts to the campaign with bonus point wins.

The students were 55-0 winners away to Perthshire seconds, while Waid saw off Howe of Fife seconds 47-17 at Anstruther.

Third-placed Rosyth Sharks were the day’s high scorers, stopping the scoreboard at 97-5 at home to Alloa seconds.

Bannockbur­n were also in free-scoring mode, with a 73-3 win at Stobswell.

Crieff & Strathearn were untroubled in seeing off Aberfeldy 63-26, while the day’s closest encounter saw the Angus Developmen­t side take five points after squeezing home 26-25 against Grangemout­h Stags seconds.
