Spiders sting Thistle with four strikes after early setback

-

Downfield came back from conceding an early goal at home to Bathgate Thistle to win 4-1.

The visitors took the lead on 11 minutes but Lee Cameron, making his Spiders’ debut, equalised four minutes later.

Bryan Duell put the Dundee side in front on 65 minutes before Calvin Colquhoun scored six minutes later and then again with three minutes left to make sure of victory.

Glenrothes were emphatic winners at home to Tranent with Lee Celantano once more in lethal form in front of goal. Celantano struck four times, on two and 20 minutes, and then on 62 and 70 minutes, both from the spot, before Darren Ormiston scored a fifth as Willie Campbell’s side won 5-2 at Warout Stadium

It was a bad day at the office for Kirrie Thistle as they went down 1-0 at home to Dalkeith Thistle and ended the game with nine men. Ryan McQueenie got the only goal of the game from the penalty spot on the half hour. Kirrie had Stephan Duffy and Frankie Lannen sent off.

St Andrews United faced Arniston Rangers for the third time in a month, although this time the game was at Barnetts Park.

Dylan Honeyman put Saints in front but Arniston were level before the break thanks to an own goal. United took the lead for a second time through Paul Quinn but the visitors earned a point when Liam McIntosh equalised a second time.

In the proverbial game of two halves, Tayport came from 2-0 down to earn a point at home to managerless Whitburn at the Canniepairt.

Andrew Thomson seized on an error in defence to put the visitors in front on 19 minutes and then central defender John Greig rifled the ball home from 25 yards to send his side in at the break fully in control.

The second half was all Tayport, Jamie Mackie pulled a goal back on 67 minutes and leading scorer Dale Reid levelled it up seven minutes later. Unfortunately for Charlie King’s side, there was no late winner this week.

The game at Memorial Park between Thornton and Dunbar United was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch
