Edinburgh suspend captain Bradbury after injury on night out

-

Magnus Bradbury is set to be sacked as Edinburgh skipper after suffering a head injury during a night out.

The 22-year-old Scotland breakaway forward was mysteriously left out of boss Richard Cockerill’s plans for Saturday’s European Challenge Cup triumph over London Irish.

It emerged that the captain, who has been capped twice for Scotland, had been suspended for an alleged breach of club rules.

Edinburgh chiefs refused to give details of the incident, but it is believed Bradbury fell and smashed his head on a pavement.

A spokesman said: “We are aware of an incident involving club captain Magnus Bradbury. The player is now subject to an internal disciplinary procedure and is unavailable for selection whilst this continues.

“We take any disciplinary issue seriously. Therefore the matter will be investigated and appropriate action will be taken. No further comment will be made at this time.”

Bradbury had been a surprise choice as new skipper after Cockerill took over as head coach during the summer.

In his absence, the Myreside outfit cruised to a bonus-point victory over London Irish in Reading.

Junior Resolea’s try double paved the way for success.

But the most important score came from James Ritchie, who made sure of the bonus point.

Also on the touchdown trail were Damien Holland and rookie Luke Crosby.

Bradbury, whose mother Dee is vicepresident of the Scottish Rugby Union, will not be in Cockerill’s selection shakeup for this weekend’s trip to Russia to face Krasny Yar. The Siberians pulled off a shock at the weekend by edging out holders Stade Francais.
