Concilys says Stars just need some luck

Joey de Concilys believes the bounces are not going for Dundee Stars.

The Canadian defenceman scored Stars’ opener against Sheffield Steelers on Sunday in a 5-2 defeat at the Dundee Ice Arena.

He believes the effort is there and the squad are working hard, but that the players need help.

He hopes former Fife Flyers star Justin Fox can be in the squad for next weekend’s clash with Coventry Blaze if his paperwork comes through in time.

The 24-year-old Ontario-born start said: “Defensively we need to get better – and that includes myself.”

A plus was the home debut of former National Hockey League draft pick Brian Hart.

Hart scored Dundee’s second goal unassisted as the Tayside team pegged defending champions Sheffield back to 3-2, but two third-period strikes ended the contest.

The 23-year-old praised his new team-mates for helping him settle in so quickly.

Stars visit Coventry Blaze on Saturday (7pm) in the Elite League and entertain the Midlands club 24-hours later in the same competition.

Stars, with three points from six fixtures and second bottom of the 12-strong table, need points after three straight league defeats.

Edinburgh Capitals prop up the division with two points from four games with struggling Braehead Clan in 10th place with six points from nine games.

Fife Flyers are eighth with six points from four starts and they entertain ninth-placed Milton Keynes Lightning, also on six points, on Friday at Rosslyn Street (7.30pm).

Flyers are on a high having completed a league win double over Braehead thanks to a 5-1 success at Kirkcaldy on Sunday.

Clan coach John Tripp snapped a four-game losing streak on Saturday with a narrow win over Capitals but must now lift his men again ahead of tomorrow’s home clash with Nottingham Panthers in Challenge Cup, Group A (7.30pm).

Edinburgh Capitals, who host Sheffield Steelers in the Elite League on Wednesday, have injury doubts over captain Michael D’Orazio and forward Taylor Stefishen.
