Wildcats stay top with win over Grange

-

Victories for Grove Menzieshill and MJV Wanderers consolidated their respective challenges for a top four finish – however, Western Wildcats still sit in pole position following their win over Grange, writes our women’s hockey correspondent.

While Alex Stuart, Heather Aitken and Emma McDairmid maintained the ‘Cats perfect record Sarah Jamieson (3), Katie Stott and Nic Skrastin ensured Grove were hot on their tails as they racked up a nap hand away to GHK.

At Dalnacraig Vikki Bunce helped out a depleted Wanderers side by making her first appearance of the season, and contributing a double to their 5-0 scoreline.

Charlotte Watson, who has taken over Bunce’s role of playmaker/striker for Wanderers, matched her mentor with another couple of goals leaving stalwart Rachel Osborne to finish the job.

Edinburgh University bounced back from last week’s loss to Grove to hammer six of the best past Hillhead and claim third place, while former table toppers Clydesdale Western slumped to fifth following a 1-1 draw with Watsonians.

Action seems to have been sparse in Division 2 with no results registered as yet by Dundee or St Andrews universities.

Stirling University were edged out as Championship I title holders MCC Western IIs claimed a 2-1 victory, and it was another day to forget for Kinross ladies who fell 5-0 to Strathclyde’s students in Championship II.
