Former Gers manager says unity is vital

-

Former Rangers boss Alex McLeish feels it is important that Kenny Miller and Pedro Caixinha are going forward together.

Miller has been left out of the last two Rangers squads, although Caixinha claimed last week that the striker was “one of ours” following clear-the-air talks.

The 37-year-old had earlier been consigned to the U20s after reports of a heated team meeting were leaked to the media, and McLeish feels Caixinha’s experienced players will be crucial going into Sunday’s Betfred Cup semi-final against Motherwell.

Caixinha felt his players delivered their best performance under him when winning 3-0 against St Johnstone on Friday, but Motherwell sit just one point below their Hampden opponents in the Ladbrokes Premiership.

“It’s a huge game for Pedro,” said McLeish, promoting BT Sport’s live coverage of both semifinals.

“It would be good if Kenny and Pedro are on the same page. That’s important. It doesn’t matter what Kenny says, Pedro’s the boss, so he has to listen to what the boss wants.”

McLeish, who managed the Ibrox club between 2001 and 2006, added: “But Kenny is experienced enough and wise enough to have a sit down and have some creative conversation with the coach. That only helps Rangers.”
