-

A Fife teenager has been sentenced to more than two years for a series of offences dating back to early last year.

Dunfermline Sheriff Court heard Kieran Nelson had committed a series of crimes, including punching a police officer, driving without a licence and assaulting a care home worker.

Nelson, 18, of King Street, Cowdenbeath, also breached a number of court orders.

He had been given community payback orders requiring him to perform 250 hours of unpaid work but only completed 32 hours, prompting Sheriff Craig McSherry to impose a period of detention.

Nelson appeared from custody at Dunfermline Sheriff Court for sentencing after he admitted a string of offences.

On February 6 last year at King Street, Cowdenbeath, he took and drove away a car without the owner’s consent.

He also drove without a valid licence and without insurance.

On February 22 last year at Arndale Residential Care Home, Aberdour Road, Dunfermline, he assaulted an employee by pushing him on the body, seizing his spectacles and throwing them on the ground.

Three days before that he shouted, swore and acted in an aggressive manner at Hope Street, Lumphinnans and in a police vehicle en route to Kirkcaldy police station, kicking the interior of the van.

The same day at Hope Street, Lumphinnans, he assaulted a police constable by punching him on the head.

On July 23 at James Court, Cowdenbeath, he resisted two female police officers and struggled violently with them.

Sheriff McSherry sentenced to Nelson to 28 months’ detention.
