Blue Brazil hampered by lack of proven goalscorer

Cowdenbeath manager Billy Brown is looking for the Blue Brazil to bounce back from their Scottish Cup defeat to East Kilbride by beating League Two leaders Stirling Albion at Central Park.

Cowden lost 1-0 for the fifth time this season when the Lowland League side triumphed in Fife last weekend and Brown is hoping that the visit of the table-topping Forthbank men will inspire his side to return to winning ways.

Apart from a Fife Cup tie victory over East Fife, their last win was more than two months ago, with a lack of goals slowing down the progress Brown is looking to make at the club.

Brown said: “Last Saturday’s game ended in a really frustrating result during a really frustrating run.

“I am not going to kid anyone on as we did not deserve to win the tie and East Kilbride played better than us. However, the number of blank scorelines and 1-0 defeats we have had speaks for itself.

“We are working hard on the training ground to find a solution but we cannot go out and bring an experienced striker in.

“We have the squad we have and to be fair to them they are not far away from any team in this league, however we do need to get things going.”

As for facing Stirling, Brown said: “We are playing the team at the top of the league and that is a game that the players should relish as it is a chance to test themselves against the best around.

“Stirling are where they are for a reason but they had a really surprising result last weekend in the Scottish Cup when they lost to Lothian Thistle/ Hutchison Vale.

“They will have been hurt by that but we will look to take the game to them and get the goals that will get us a win.”

Goalkeeper Joe McGovern is out with a serious knee injury and Jamie Pyper also remains on the sidelines.
