Getting to know you
Andrew Scott is a catering adviser who also runs Heaven Scent coffee shops in Dunfermline, Milnathort and at Knockhill
Q What’s your go-to ingredient? A Nutmeg – love it and I’ll put it into anything I can get my hands on.
Q Your house is on fire, what one item do you save? A My home insurance document.
Q Theme song for your life? A Dream On, Aerosmith, which would also be my funeral song.
Q First thing you’d do if you won £1 million? A Kiss whoever’s nearest to me, wait for it to clear, then start spending!
Q Sweet or savoury? A As long as it’s edible, I’ll eat it.
Q Early bird or night owl? A I’m a burn the candle at both ends kind of a guy.
Q Who would you like to thank?
A My family, my tutor at college who continues to support me and my amazing team. Everyone who has been on the journey with me really.
Q Last meal on earth?
A Start with a full breakfast; then a Christmas meal with all the trimmings as the main course; polish off with the food of Gods – Viennetta ice-cream with home-made sticky toffee pudding. All washed down with a vast vat of white wine then a pot of tea featuring one of my mother’s hand knitted tea cosies.
Q Happiest memory?
A The euphoria of sitting on top of the highest part of the Great Wall of China, with a group of fellow hospitality professionals…all crying our eyes out with sheer joy. Unbelievable.
Q And most embarrassing?
A The list is long and distinguished... Many incidents involving falling flat on my face, over fences, papers going flying, phones breaking…
Q What are you proudest of? A What we as a team have achieved with Heaven Scent.
Q What would be your superhero name? A Baracuda.
Q Quiet night in or big night out?
A A big night out which ends at 11pm so I can then have a quiet night in with a nice cup of tea. Go hard, go home!
Q City break or weekend in the country? A Weekend in the country, cycling, walking and eating with my family.
Q Home or abroad?
A Abroad. On a boat in the sunshine. But then 10 days is enough and I want to go home.
Q What’s the hardest thing you’ve ever had to do? A Acknowledge that one of my businesses was failing and walk away.
Q Who do you admire most? A My nana was my hero. She bought her fourth business on her 70th birthday.
Q And who do you detest? A Life is too short – move on.
Q If you could turn back the clock what one thing would you change?
A I put a lot of time, effort and emotion into a restaurant business in Perth. Then I lost it all. It took me a while to pick myself up, dust myself down and keep going. It would be great not to have had to go through all that, but on the other hand I learned so much and it was the inspiration for starting my catering and hospitality consultancy, Victus.
Q What advice would you give to your younger self? A If you believe it in your heart, go at it and go at it 100%..
Q What was the worst punishment you had as a child?
A Not being allowed to go out with my friends – always devastating when you’re a child.
Q What’s your motto? A Go big or go home.
Q Who is your food hero? A Marco Pierre White – I love his stinky attitude
