Stillwater International at Forbes of Kingennie

-

The Forbes of Kingennie resort has been playing host to the Stillwater International, with teams from Scotland, England, Ireland and Wales competing in the event.

Practice began last Saturday and culminates in the full international final day today.

During this time the Boathouse and Burnside Pools have not been open to the public. So far, a number of excellent fish have been returned including a rainbow estimated at 14lb 8oz.

Last week the changes to water clarity in the Boathouse Pool influenced catches quite appreciably.

Catch and release numbers were lower in general but several decent fish were landed.

Liam Kirk released four with the best being a rainbow estimated at 10lb. Dries were not as productive this week with more fish being taken on cormorant patterns and small lures.

The Burnside was also a little less productive but dries still produced some positive results with buzzers and cormorants also being in vogue.

It was the turn of the Bankside Pool to shine this week with some outstanding catches. Jock Leslie returned 24 fish on dry fly patterns. Black/ green patterns were high on the list of successful flies as were various types of Cat Bugs.

There were some good catches on Saturday at Lake of Menteith.

Lochend and the Butts seemed to be the place but anglers will be heading for the forbidden bay now as the rope was taken off mid-morning yesterday, thus allowing access to Gateside Bay.

There are still boats available for this Sunday’s community fundraiser for the kirk and school.

Boats go out from 11am until 4pm and there is a barbecue, soup, refreshments and a raffle. Cost of a two-person fishing boat is £45 (book through fishery).

Orchill Fishery. Comrie angler Donald McIsaac, 79, caught a 9lb 8oz rainbow on a cat and his son, Donald Jr, took a brace weighing 5lb 4oz, also on a cat. Donald was making his first visit to the fishery.

Recent catches: Colin Hynd, Dunfermline, used a yellow dancer to take two for 6lb and Alex Cuthbert, Cowdenbeath, caught two weighing 7lb 12oz on a clan chief and a montana.

Stewart Cairns, Perth, landed two for 10lb – the best 7lb on an Ally McCoist – while Jake Munroe, also Perth, caught two weighing 6lb 8oz on an Ally McCoist.

Jim Jarvie, Larbert, landed four for 14lb on a black bob and Alec Fitzsimmons, Fintry, had four for 11lb on a black and green fritz.

Frandy Fishery. On the individual front, Ian MacEchern and Jim McIntosh, Fort William, kept seven, weighing 18lb 4oz, Willie Johnson, Bannockburn, caught two for 6lb 12oz and released a further one, Kenny Baird, Tillicoultry, landed two weighing 5lb and Jake Chambers and John Picket, Dunoon, kept three weighing 8lb.

The top taking flies last week included the okey dokey, coral dancer, cats whisker and olive damsels
