St Johnstone boss Tommy Wright admitted he had mixed emotions after his players secured a point in a goalless draw against Ross County last night.

The manager, who had to watch the game from the stand as he is nursing a sore knee at the moment, felt his side possibly deserved more from the contest with Paul Paton having a superb opportunity in the second half with a header that was saved by Staggies stopper Scott Fox.

However, after losing their previous three games – against Rangers, Aberdeen and Hearts – and looking at the bigger picture, Wright admitted that overall he was satisfied with the night’s work.

The manager, whose side remain sixth in the Premiership, said: “I enjoyed watching it from the stand. It was a lot more relaxing.”

“Obviously my knee is playing up so it might be something I look at even when it gets better. I quite enjoyed it watching from up there,” admitted Wright.

“I also enjoyed our performance at times but I am frustrated for them that we just didn’t get the breaks in front of goal.

“I have asked them to be a bit more positive and to have belief in the last third.

“I think they showed that but we maybe lacked that wee bit of composure and luck.

“I have to be pleased with how we played. We dominated parts of the game and I think they had one chance when Ando (Steven Anderson) lobbed one off the line.

“So I am pleased and disappointed for the players but it is a point and it takes us to 15.

“It is a reasonably good start (to the season) in that first block of 11 games.

“I thought Paul Paton did great tonight.

It’s not often as a manager that you get to a double century. TOMMY WRIGHT

“After Saturday, it was important to freshen things up.

“It was a decent save but we are obviously disappointed we did not get all three points.

“However, we will take a draw and overall I am satisfied with our start.

“It would have been nice if we could have won but when you come off the back of the defeats we have had it is nice to stop that and we can start to rebuild again.”

The match was Wright’s 200th since he took over as St Johnstone boss and he added: “It is a nice milestone to reach.

“It’s not often as a manager that you get to a double century.”

County boss Owen Coyle said: “A draw is probably fair.

“Any point away from home in this league is a good point and for us, it’s seven points from four games. It’s an encouraging start.

“We just need to add that bit of quality passing as we go forward and look to keep improving.”
