‘Safe zone’ for party-goers to be open in town this Halloween

-

A night out in Dunfermline needn’t be a scary experience for revellers this Halloween.

Police in Fife are again joining forces with partners to provide a safe area for partygoers in the town centre.

Dunfermline Safe Zone will be operating on Saturday night as people head out for Halloween celebrations, as well as over the festive period.

It will operate from Dunfermline Advice Hub on Douglas Street from 10pm to 4am.

The zone will offer a drop-in venue for people who have been separated from their friends, or who may be suffering from drinking too much or in need of minor medical assistance following a night out in the town centre.

The Scottish Ambulance Service, Fife Council, British Red Cross, Dunfermline Delivers, Dunfermline Street Pastors, West Fife Neighbourhood Watch, Fife Alcohol Support Services and Pubwatch have joined up with Police Scotland’s alcohol and violence reduction unit to provide the service.

Organisers say people should bear in mind that drinking too much on nights out can increase their chances of becoming a victim of crime.

Coordinator Constable David Moffatt said: “The Safe Zone will return this weekend prior to again being available for people over the festive season, should they require some support on a night out.

“This is a joint initiative with a number of partner agencies and through collaboration with our partners we are committed to working to keep people safe.”

He thanked Dunfermline Advice Hub and Furniture Plus for donating the use of their premises for the event.
