Raith boss feels new deal for striker proves club’s ambition –
Raith Rovers: Goal-getter has signed on until 2019
Raith Rovers boss Barry Smith believes the fact top striker Lewis Vaughan has just signed a new deal shows the club is heading in the right direction.
The 21-year-old has been in prolific form this season netting 17 goals in just 16 games for the Kirkcaldy side.
Rovers were understandably keen to tie him down to a longer deal and after negotiations with chairman Alan Young, Vaughan agreed to put pen to paper on a contract that will keep him with Raith until May 2019.
Smith said: “I think this shows the club are trying to do the right thing and we are going in the right direction.
“It is great news both from the point of view of the club and the fans.
“The chairman was overseeing the contract negotiations and he has managed to come to an agreement with Lewis where both parties are happy.
“That takes a lot of doing at times so all credit to him for getting the deal completed.
“Lewis has done brilliantly since I came in but he has been part of a winning team which has been good for him and is one of the reasons why he is enjoying his football.
“He has been allowed to express himself thanks to the form of other players as well.
“Everyone is pulling together but we are delighted he has signed.
“There will no doubt be interest in him in January, and rightly so, but we want to get promoted and we are determined to hold on to guys like Lewis and others to make sure we achieve that.”
Chairman Young added: “This is excellent news for the club and our fans.
“We have been working towards this signing for some time and I am very pleased to get everything concluded so that Lewis can concentrate on what he does best.”
