Brechin ‘must produce 100% in every match’

LIVINGSTON 3 BRECHIN CITY 2

Kalvin Orsi has confessed that Brechin City have to ensure they hit top form every single week if they are to have any chance of avoiding relegation from the Championship this season.

Saturday’s narrow defeat at Livingston was the Glebe Park side’s 11th match without a win since their surprise promotion via the play-offs last term and it was another frustrating 90 minutes for the Angus men.

A calamitous error from experienced keeper Graeme Smith, who allowed Jack McMillan’s shot to squirm through his grasp and over the line after just two minutes, ensured Darren Dods’ side made the worst possible start.

However, they recovered well with Jordan Sinclair’s equaliser just five minutes later and were holding their own until the hour mark, when defensive indecision allowed Craig Halkett to drive in Livi’s second.

Orsi’s penalty five minutes from time set the nerves jangling in the home ranks, but by then the Lions, who moved into second in the table, had the comfort of a third from Dylan Mackin.

Already six points adrift at the bottom of the league with just two points, City continue to struggle with life in the second tier and Orsi admits the parttimers simply cannot afford the errors that led to their downfall at the weekend.

The 20-year-old said: “It’s disappointing to have another defeat but I don’t believe the results are a true reading of what’s happening on the pitch.

“Again on Saturday it was tight and it was errors that cost us.

“It’ll take a lot to stay up but we have to believe that anything is possible.

“A Livingston can play average and win, but we need to play 100% if we’re to pick up a win. Hopefully next week against Dumbarton that’s what we do.

“There’s no point in playing if we don’t believe we can turn things around.

“It’s a difficult league, it’s hard and we just need to keep our heads down, work hard and see where it takes us.”
