Wanderers look to continue climb
Dundee Wanderers did themselves a power of good last weekend with a narrow win over Uddingston, writes our men’s hockey correspondent.
A repeat result tomorrow at Inverleith could even take them out of the relegation zone.
Grove Menzieshill have not been at their best but are still well placed in fourth, which would clinch a play-off slot.
They have a cushion of five points over the fifth-placed team but could improve that with victory at Western Wildcats. That would take them above the West team and transfer the pressure to Western.
Perthshire are the leading local team in division 2 but have a difficult task tomorrow, against Carnegie at home.
Only first and second places count for anything in promotion terms and Perthshire can be in with a shout, but they must beat the teams above them.
St Andrews University look likely to end up in mid-table, disappointingly after their press near the top last season.
Harris, on the other hand, have to continue to give young player their chance to learn. Heavy defeats have been the order of the day and that will not change against leaders Watsonians.
Menzieshill II and Western II had a very close game last week despite both being in the bottom three of the Central first division.
It would appear to get easier tomorrow against Grange III.
Wanderers II are steadily adjusting from the move up to the Regional League but have only two wins out of five to date.
GHK are similarly placed so this must be an opportunity to move into mid-table.
Perthshire will play in the under-18 National Cup finals on Sunday in Glasgow. They came through the preliminaries in October and will play Clydesdale and Grange in a round-robin to determine the winners. Grove Menzieshill play Inverleith and Aberdeen Grammar in Pool C.
