Police are appealing for information after a man dressed as a Jedi Knight was attacked – by another reveller dressed as Jesus.

The assault, on Dundee’s Smalls Wynd, followed a Halloween-themed party organised by the Dundee University’s Students Association (DUSA).

The man dressed as Jesus is understood to have punched the Jedi, who broke his ankle as he fell to the ground.

A police spokesperson said: “Officers would like to trace a man described as in his mid 20s, about 5ft 10 and medium build, with long brown hair, a beard, and wearing long robes as a fancy dress costume.”

The attack happened after DUSA held its Halloween party on Tuesday night, although it is not known if those involved were at the gathering.

The event has become synonymous with the union in recent years and attracts more than 3,500 partygoers.

News of the costumed attack sparked bewilderment on social media.

Reacting to the appeal for information, Lorraine Robson said: “I thought Jesus was the peaceful one? If this hadn’t ended in the Jedi being injured (ouch on the broken ankle – hope you heal fast and well!) I would be laughing my head off. Just... wow!”

Sean Keith added: “The second coming in the West End, what next?”

Andrew McKiddie quipped: “May the force be with him.”

Earlier this year, three men were jailed for a vicious attack on a man dressed as Dracula.

Charlie Hill, 33, of Strathcarron Place, Gary Thoms, 33, of St Boswells Terrace, and Rossco Stern, 23, of Queen Mary Avenue, Glasgow, were caught on camera carrying out a brutal assault in Dundee’s St Boswells Terrace.

CCTV footage showed knives and baseball bats were involved in the assault.

The trio had initially arrived uninvited to a Halloween party before things turned violent.

Stern and Hill admitted their part in the attack and were sentenced to 38 months in prison, while Thoms was found guilty by a jury and given a 40-month jail term.
