New Madras College another step closer with road scheme

-

Another step has been taken towards the long awaited delivery of a new secondary school for St Andrews.

A planning application has been lodged for a roundabout from the A91 and a road through the North Haugh to serve the replacement Madras College.

The road will provide access to the Langlands where it is intended the £50 million school will be built, allowing construction to take place.

It also forms part of the wider St Andrews West expansion, which will see 1000 new homes built as well as new university facilities.

The application has been submitted by St Andrews West LLP, the consortium behind the expansion plans which includes St Andrews University, Headon Developments and other landowners.

David Wardrop, of Wardrop Strategic Planning on behalf of the consortium, said: “The LLP is delighted to be submitting this application now.

“The LLP’s team has undertaken a wide-ranging and detailed assessment of the characteristics of the North Haugh area before arriving at the most appropriate location for the roundabout and route for the road.

“The proposals allow the retention and enhancement of the existing pond along with replacement tree planting and ecological improvements.”

It is hoped that planning permission will be granted early next year, paving the way for site preparation to begin in the spring.

A planning application is also expected imminently from Fife Council for the school itself.

If approved, it is intended that pupils can move in during the 2020-21 academic year.
