Cowden to end on a high

-

Interim Cowdenbeath manager John Ovenstone is determined to end a unique week at the Central Park club with a win over visitors Montrose.

The bottom side in League Two became an internet sensation on Monday when footage of the ‘diving header’ penalty given away by Jordan Garden at Berwick went worldwide and then manager Billy Brown called time on his stint in charge.

Ovenstone said: “The week started off a bit flat but the boys were upbeat at training on Thursday night. There is a real determination to get a result.

“It was a bizarre challenge from Jordan –however it was not a penalty as he played the ball. At worse it was a freekick for dangerous play.

“In some ways all the activity it brought helped when the manager left as it took some of the attention away from that disappointment. Jordan has been taken apart by the rest of the players for all the internet activity but he has taken it on the chin.”

The ex-Tayport juniors manager added: “I have got a few ideas that I want to try but the main thing is that I want the side to be positive.

“We know that we have an issue scoring goals and we have an issue losing games 1-0. However Jim Moffat and I will send out a side determined to change that.”

Goalkeeper Joe McGovern and Jamie Pyper are out but Shaun Rutherford could return.
