DUNDEE STARS 2 BELFAST GIANTS 5

Dundee Stars suffered their third straight Elite League defeat when they were outshot by high-flying Belfast Giants last night.

The scoreline was set-up by a quick-fire double either side of the first break at Dundee Ice Arena.

The Northern Irish side, who visit Fife Flyers tonight in the Elite League and Challenge Cup, kept their cool to claim their eighth win in regular time in 14 league fixtures.

Stars, who are second-bottom of the 12-strong table, brought the deficit back to 3-1 but fourth-placed Giants comfortably earned their fifth win in a row.

Injury-hit Giants had raced to a 3-0 lead.

The opener came in eight minutes when Seb Sylvestre was set up by Glasgow-born Colin Shields and Brendan Connolly.

It was 2-0 41 seconds from the end of the opening session when Sylvestre became playmaker for Connolly.

Steve Saviano netted unassisted only 33 seconds after the opening of the middle period.

Stars opened their account when Riley Stadel netted, with Gabriel Levesque and MarcOlivier Mimar involved in the move.

The home side’s joy was short-lived, though, as Shields scored in 32 minutes after Connolly and Giants skipper Blair Riley were involved in the build-up.

Connolly popped in No 5 unassisted 13 minutes later to underline the visitors’ superiority on the night.

Brian Hart scored three minutes later to give Stars a second after being set-up by Malcolm Gould.

Stars host Manchester Storm in the Elite League tonight (7pm face-off).
