Missing Fife man may be living in London
Peter McGuire disappeared after going for swim in Dunfermline in 1993
A Fife man missing for almost 25 years may still be alive and living on the streets in England, police have claimed.
The family of Peter McGuire yesterday made a heartfelt plea for their loved one to make contact having not been seen since leaving a Dunfermline leisure centre in 1993.
Though the High Valleyfield man’s car was found parked near the Forth Road Bridge, no further trace of the then-21-year-old, right, had ever been found until officers recently became aware of a man using his identity south of the border.
With this person now thought to be in west London, police yesterday issued a new computer generated image of Mr McGuire in a bid to finally resolve the mystery of his disappearance.
In a statement issued by police, the McGuire family pleaded with Peter to make contact if he was still alive, adding that their pain “has never gone away”.
Almost a quarter of a century after disappearing without trace, police say evidence has emerged to suggest a missing Fife man is still alive.
Officers investigating the 1993 disappearance of Peter McGuire believe he may be living rough in London after becoming aware of a man using identical personal information.
While inquiries continue to identify the person using the High Valleyfield man’s details, his family have made a heartfelt plea in a desperate bid to establish whether he is still alive.
In a statement issued through Police Scotland, Mr McGuire’s family said: “Peter you are a big part of our lives that is missing and the pain of that has never gone away.
“We all love you so much and worry about you every day.
“Please Peter find it in yourself to get in touch.
“It would be a blessing to hear from you.
“We would love for you to be a part of our lives again in any way you choose, your terms, your pace, one step at a time.
“We are here for you, our doors will always be open for you. God bless you Peter and know that you are loved by us all so very much”
Peter McGuire has not been seen since leaving Dunfermline’s Carnegie Leisure Centre on January 27 1993.
Following an extensive police investigation, his car was discovered parked near the Forth Road Bridge, though no further trace was ever found of the then 21-year-old.
However, the investigation into his disappearance took an unexpected twist last November when it was discovered that a man using Peter’s name and date of birth had been living rough in the Hastings area of England.
After further police work, it was established that this man had quickly moved on and may have then been in the West London area. While there can be no certainty that the man in England is Mr McGuire, police have issued a computer-generated image of how he may look today.
Detective Inspector Kelly McEwan from Dunfermline CID said: “At this time, we do not know if the male down south is indeed the Peter McGuire who went missing from High Valleyfield almost 25 years ago.
“However, he provided information which suggested knowledge of Peter’s circumstances.
“As such we are conducting a thorough investigation and liaising with our colleagues at the relevant police forces to try and identify and speak to this individual.
“Members of the public who live in any of the locations currently involved in this inquiry and who believe they have useful information are asked to contact police immediately, particularly those living and working within the homeless networks.”
