Funds kickstart sports classes

-

A new project to help vulnerable children in Dunfermline take part in karate has received a funding boost.

Seal Dunfermline was awarded £750 by housebuilder Persimmon Homes as part of the firm’s healthy communities campaign.

It will see the company give away more than £600,000 to sporting causes across the UK over the next 10 months.

Seal Dunfermline is a charity working to increase social, confidence and coping skills among children and young people.

The group has joined JKS Scotland to give members the chance to take part in karate sessions.

Alison Murphy of the charity said: “We want to offer karate to our disadvantaged group members in the hope that this will help them to build confidence, become more active and, most importantly, try a new activity.

“For many members this will be their first time engaging in a mainstream activity and our hope is that some will progress from the partnership sessions to mainstream karate classes.

“This donation will help to cover the costs of suits and hand pads for our groups members.

“We cannot thank Persimmon enough for this generous donation.

Each month this year, Persimmon Homes North Scotland will hand out £750 to a sports team or individual aged under 21 to be spent on kit, equipment, coaching or facilities.

A public vote will decide who will receive the top £200,000 award.
